More On New York Mets Old Timers Day Being "Too Much Work"

as I ranted about yesterday - you have Ron and Keith there every day, Bobby O works for SNY and Hojo is in the dugout. The Yankees convinced Cone and Mazzilli to show up at theirs...

the thought of the Mets saying that Old Timer's Day is "too much work" just sickens me. It actually sickens me more than anything else they've done, and that says something.

Think about this - You have the '69 Mets coming back together at Shea later this season. No need for phone calls. Hand out the invites in person. The '86 Mets that are in house are well connected to their teammates - make them do some work (they could sell it better than some Mets intern could). Do this on a day when the Braves are in town and you can get Mr. Hotfoot himself (McDowell) back.

But don't forget some of the lovable characters from the losing teams (anyone who was invited to Shea Goodbye last year is in). Davey Johnson manages one side and Bobby Valentine the other.

Or do the Wilpons think they'll have to answer questions about the lack of Mets history at what I call Chez Amazin' in the days and weeks leading up to this event, and that idea just scares the hell out of them?

You know how people in '69 would shake their head and say "Amazin'" I do the same thing now, but with a different connotation.

It really can't be that hard.

At the coming of the day when nothing else draws a crowd of over 15,000 to the stadium, all the things of which you speak will finally be worth the Mets' while.

That day may be here sooner than anyone imagines.

If you are visiting The Mets Police for the first time, welcome. This blog aims to be a little different. We're less likely to complain about a pitching change than we are likely to complain about what the pitcher was wearing. We're about Mets history and tradition. We'd like to see a Seaver statue at Citi Field. We'd like the black uniforms to go away. We'd like the team to always treat the fans with respect.
