Jeff Wilpon this morning: hinted lower Mets ticket prices coming

I’ll let the other blogs handle all the on-field stuff but I liked what I heard from Jeff today. Lots of talk about responsibility and change and culture.

It’s good when these guys come out and speak..it makes them more relatable (which is why I hope Dave Howard will hit a game with me in April – more on that below).

Re Tickets: they are discussing lowering ticket pricess and will have an announcement in a few weeks.

Other stuff from memory…

…they talked about getting Manny in 2005, not in 2007.

…they will “get rid” of Ollie whether the new GM “packages” him or they release him.  Sounded like we’ve seen the last of #46.

..it’s in Boras’ best interest not to have any contract such as Ollie’s be perceived as a (my words) ripoff.

..the rumored Greenwich dinner with Bobby and Wally never happened.  He has not recently had dinner with either man and any location.

…the park was tailored to what the old GM wanted.  Could change if the new GM wants.  Could move the walls down not in, reducing the Great Wall to 8 feet.  Jeff points out the Mets play well at home.

…I forgot John Maine existed until B&C mentioned him.

…on a scale of 1 to 10, how angry was he at Beltran?   12.

…DW and Reyes could be moved only if other GM was a fool and offered the Mets the kitchen sink (my words on all).

….

I thought Jeff seemed “cool.”  He should come out front more often.  We’re going to talk about the Mets anyway, so engage the dialog.

Back to my plan for Dave Howard and I to go to a game.   Think Undercover Boss. Dave meets me at 11:30 by the Apple.   We use my tickets which I pay for.  We hit the shake shack and chat while on line.   Head on up to Promenade Left (one of the first three rows) and check out the game, talk Mets, grab a beer.  A typical fan experience.  I’m not there to bust chops, just wanna get to know the guy, and the guy can get to know one of us.   April?

  1. My prediction: ~2% discount on season tickets, 1% on 13+ plans. They’ll redo the plans and make them affordable, and I suspect they’ll have some sort of flex plan that you can buy opening/yanks and pick and choose some other games. (this isn’t even unprecedented for the Mets) Promenade seating won’t change. (maybe Promenade Club). The mid-range tickets, which is wehre the issue is anyway, will go down. LFL, Pepsi Porch gold, Caesar’s Club, Baseline Box will drop down in the outer reaches of affordability.

I think they’ll start having more daels (remember the Wendy’s ticket deal? the LIRR ticket deal?) it works in sponsors, discounts some games, and helps all around.

  2. The only pricing plan that is fair is a guaranteed win scheme
How about an all you can eat plan.
    Other teams have that.
Mid week dollar dogs and three dollar brewskis.
Simply put, how about players that care as much for winning as the fans?
