Report: Mets will honor Reyes with a video

I don’t like it.

According to a team source, the Mets will acknowledge Reyes’ nine years in New York with a video tribute on April 24, before the shortstop’s Citi Field unveiling as a Miami Marlin. That game opens a three-game series.

  1. There’s something wrong if the Mets can’t play a 60- or 90-second video to recognize one of their best players in recent memory before the game while everybody is still on line at the Shake Shack.

There’s plenty of time to boo Reyes once the game starts.

  2. They did a video highlight for Todd Zeile when he came back…it’s not like this is uncommon (or even that special if Zeile rated one)

  3. They did a nice video tribute for Edgardo Alfonzo when he came back in 2003 – he was only 29 at the time. They did Piazza and Zeile. This is great job by Dave Howard. Surprised to see the antipathy towards such a classy move here.

  4. The fact that Reyes CHOSE to leave this franchise and fan base and the fact that the Mets couldn’t afford to keep him here make a video acknowledgement really awkward in my opinion. I’m not saying he wasn’t an all time great Met, but acknowledging him at this point just doesn’t feel right.

  5. He’s in the top 5 of all-time Met offensive players…he didn’t cause any problems off the field…why not give him a tribute? He would have stayed if the Mets could have afforded him. Perhaps the tribute gets him emotional and throws him off his game for a few innings…anything for an edge. Maybe the Mets want him back some day…this can’t hurt. Turn your TV off if it annoys you for a minute.

  6. It should be a 90-second montage of him doing fancy handshakes and that shining-the-spotlight thing.
