Hey Mets, the Promenade Club, seriously?

I noticed this year’s 15 plan had access to the Promenade Club so the other night I proposed to Goon that we blow off the Taqueria and try the club.

Then it occurred to me that it might get chilly so let’s snare some window seats and watch the game from the club. Seemed like a good idea.

Well that sure wasn’t going to work. So we headed more toward behind home plate.

Sigh.

I try to offer helpful suggestions to the Mets in my posts but short of “rebuild the entire upper deck” I think this one goes in the “what were they thinking?” books.

  1. Been like that since 2009.  Plenty of people go in the Promenade club, but I guess it never bcomes a talking point.  Seems like they decided to put a club there after they organized the seating areas.  It may be resolved by moving the row of seats there, but really they need to have raised up the club about 2 feet. Which I guess technically they still could by raising the floor, i don’t remember how high the ceilings are.

or only allow translucent people to buy those seats.

  2. Me and my dad were sitting there right behind home plate during the doubleheader on Monday. There weren’t a lot of people in front of us, so it wasn’t terrible. Game Two started and everyone came out of the woodwork. We were complaining about this with everyone else around us. You literally just hope you have chairs about a foot higher or something. Standing from the rail on your seat works, but is ridiculous, uncomfortable and kind of dangerous.

  3. After over 3 years of agreeing with you Shannon on seemingly everything you ever posted here, I find myself on a remarkable run of not understanding or disagreeing with most of your posts. I guess this is what happens to armies after they win the war they were assembled to fight. We all got the uniforms we banded together passionately to vie for. They look amazing! And now we devote our energies to new and different campaigns: Me, to hoping to help bring about the downfall of the owners (that you have no beef with) and you to nitpicking a stadium that I happen to love (not as much as Shea, not yet, but I could not be happier with the template.)

The Promenade Club was never meant to be a place where people watch the game. In fact the only club designed to be a place from which to watch the game was the brand-named fast Train Club in left-field. The fanciest option for the highest paying customers (the Airline 360 club) doesn’t even have field views. The next option in the hierarchy (the Champions club) does have field views but barely, and these few windows are not intended to be a perch from which to watch the game but rather just a portal to remind the folks in the club they are at the ballpark and that there is a game being played not too far away that they could watch in person if they should get bored at the food court. Moving down the price-scale, the Atlantic City Casino Club offers views only of the Parking. And finally we arrive at the Promenade Club- the club of the people- which actually offers the most extensive field views of any of the clubs at the lowest price-point. That sounds like a Mets Police praiseworthy kind of feature to me  Can you see home plate? No. Nor should you. You’re in a club built behind the upper deck. Get your beer and your hotdog and get back to your seats. If the team were to build a club in the uppper deck to offer unobstructed field views, it would have to be built in front of the seating bowl. can you imagine the uproar?

Well we fought long and hard together my friend and I will always respect you and visit your site and remember fondly the change I believe we helped bring about for the team we love so much. I also realize you have pressure to post content in order to keep your site viable… but as the content fades in to the realm of nitpicking, you are diluting the voice you worked hard to establish.

    1. I didn’t write a nitpicking for nitpicking sake article. I went to the game with Goon and was kinda quite surprised at the design.

Anyways, thanks for the well stated commment.

Folks think the blog ebbs and flows with an agenda but as always its just the sort of stuff I was emailing to my friends in the 90’s and 00’s
