Sorry R.A. that was not a no-hitter

I see the Mets would like the scoring of a first inning play changed. Lame.

What are they going to do, award the guy a no-hitter three days later so the Mets can sell merch?

An after the fact no-buzz no-no? Is that what we want?

Perhaps the Cardinals should fight to get Beltran the hit vs. Santana he deserves?

Leave it be.

  1. All they’re asking is for them to confirm or overturn the actual recording of the game, not the outcome.  They do this _all the time_. If they look at it, and David Wright had time to glove, transfer, and throw, then it should be ruled an error.  They’re just asking them to double check, something the official scorer could not do during the game.  Just because it’s weird and never happened before doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get it right.

This isn’t overturning an umps call.  This isn’t changing the flow of the game, like overturning Beltran’s hit (or Jim Joyce’s blown call) would.  Hit or Error the game precedes the same way. It’s just bookkeeping.

    1. You can’t say the game would have proceeded the same way if that were ruled an error at the time. Dickey would have been pitching under the pressure of a no-hitter late in the game…fielders would have been nervous…a Ray may have tried to put down a bunt.

That being said, the Mets should not have brought it up given what happened to Johan.

  2. RA Dickey doesn’t care, saying that if it happens it will be cheap.  This appeal is going to sting Wright who may take this to the negotiation table.  He may take it as a sign of disrespect.  Good luck keeping the guy after this.  This may become a big mistake.

    1. Neither Dickey or Wright are going to care either way. How can you say he might take it as a sign of disrespect? How do you know that Wright didn’t think it should have been an error and not a hit? I can not see Wright going,” Hey you know that game in Tampa when you guys made that appeal? Thats going to cost you an extra million in the contract.”

It’s silly for the Mets to appeal it, but in the long run its not going to be overturned and Wright isn’t going to worry about it when it comes time to negotiate.

  3. Just leave it be….considering we got a break with Johann’s no-no…..this doesn’t make us look good.
