METS SELECT RHP TYLER PILL / OPTION RHP RAFAEL MONTERO

FLUSHING, N.Y., May 26, 2017 – The New York Mets announced today that they have selected the contact of RHP Tyler Pill from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and optioned RHP Rafael Montero to Las Vegas. In order to make room on the 40-man roster, the Mets transferred RHP Seth Lugo to the 60-Day DL. Pill will wear #56 and will be available for tonight’s game in Pittsburgh. He has never appeared in the majors.

Pill, who turns 27 on May 29, was 4-1 with a 1.60 ERA (10 earned runs/56.1 innings) in nine combined starts with Las Vegas and Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League this year. He allowed 51 hits, issued 15 walks and struck out 26.

Pill was leading the Pacific Coast League with a 1.96 ERA (10 earned runs/46.0 innings), going 3-1. The 6-1, 205-pounder began the year without permitting an earned run in his first 34.1 innings.

He was an All-Star with Binghamton last year and is 42-30 with a 4.01 ERA (272 earned runs/610.2 innings) in 116 career minor league games, 105 starts.

Pill was a fourth-round selection in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft from Cal State Fullerton. His older brother, Brett, played in 111 games with the San Francisco Giants from 2011-2013.
