Mets Police Morning Laziness: Go Yankees! (Here’s why…)

Go Yankees.

Hold on, hold on, stay with me….

Several parallel thoughts from me, in no particular order.   This is not Mets Fans for Yankees nonsense.  This is about us….and how we get to where we need to go.

  1.  It has to get worse before it can get better.  The problem right now is the sense is that it only got a little worse and if only for some better luck blah blah blah.  They traded everyone (which was the right thing to do).  This idea that we’re going to sign a second baseman (cough) and the rookies are Hall of Famers and all the pitching is healthy is a dreamers plan.  Let it burn.  Lets go 50-112 so that….
  2. Culture Change.  We’ve been talking about culture change for most of this century but lets face it.  There is not a culture of winning in Queens.  Here’s what happened….not the revisionist version….here’s what happened:  Sandy made a trade and got his SECOND CHOICE in Cespedes.  His first choice would have been a disaster and the Mets would have had another nothing season.   So Cespedes carries the team for six weeks, and Murph for another three and then nobody the last week.  That’s what happened.  We didn’t take back New York or turn things around, we rode two hot streaks.  There hasn’t been a feisty clubhouse type since Paul LoDuca.  There hasn’t been a Gil Hodges to go pull your ass out of left field in a long time.   It’s a culture of “the guys really battled tonight.”
  3. Manager.   The names remaining excite nobody.  Nobody wants this job.  See the tail end of section two.  There are only 30 if these gigs and nobody wants it?  Alex Cora ran to grab a job where the last three guys got fired and two of them were World Series Champions…in Boston.  What?  Is Steinbrenner undead and running Boston?    You can’t win even if you win.   Anyway, the Mets seem like they want to settle on choices that will excite nobody.  So let’s kick the can more years like we did with Terry.
  4. I am stuck with Jeff Wilpon for life.   If you are a millennial you might get to see The GrandKid own the team some day, but for a lot of us, Jeff is our age so we are stuck with him forever.  He will never sell.  Why?  Because it’s one thing to be a real estate guy running your dad’s company.  It’s another thing to be The Owner Of The Mets.  You think the Ed Marcus Real Estate company can wheel and deal the say way Sterling Whatever can?  Never mind the perks of hooking up Influencers and Stars with skybox seats.  Owning the team makes you Somebody.  Otherwise you’re a rich kid whose dad started a company.  Then again, President WIlpon could happen.
  5. 28 rings, 29 rings what’s the difference.  The Mets are gonna have to run off two and a half decades of straight championships to catch up.  We’re the little brother and will always be.  Yes the frontrunners will come over the bridge every 15 years for our playoff cameo, but we will never Take Back New York.  So….

I need my pain.  You need your pain.  Earn those scars.  Put your time in.

Let the Yankees win.  Let the yahoos wear Judge 99 jerseys with names on the back and roll your eyes at them.

Be the Army.  Watch your numbers shrink from 800 to 400 but treasure those 400 who stay with you and remember their faces when the yahoos come back to Queens wearing Trendy Star of 2025 Jerseys.

Find your Lee Mazzilli.  Find your Murph. Those players will mean more to you than rooting for a Matt Harvey ever could.

Let the Yankees win.  Let them win 5 in a row.  Feel the pain until Jeff fells the pain and we get culture change in Queens.  A culture of winning.

The time is not now.  Now is a GM who rode two hot streaks and a manager who takes a job nobody wants.

Give back New York.  Who cares.  Let them have it.   I’ll be here with the 12,000 of you that stay, like I was in 2012 and 1978.

Go Yankees.

….

SLACKISH RECATION:  I did not watch the baseball game.  I am confused how MLB thought it could start a game at 8 not 9.  Doesn’t that inconvenience West Coast fans?  I was told 9pm starts make sense.  Now I am confused.

I did watch episode ten of the web series Star Trek Continues (no Orville this week) which I highly recommend over Battlestar Discovery’s crap.

Not linking: you guessed it….manager articles.
