Mets to Host 2013 All-Star Game at Citi Field – NYTimes.com

The bold is mine and I still say (without ever having actually planned an All Star Game) that this could all have been hammered out in a three hour meeting.

Parking for satellite trucks?  Really?  In a city where there’s a movie shoot in midtown almost every day?

The formal announcement is late in coming. In years past, M.L.B. would announce the host and then formalize the details with the host city. All-Star Games have become so elaborate, though, that M.L.B. now negotiates many of the details with the potential host city before announcing the event. M.L.B. holds red-carpet events, parades and concerts, all of which require permits, police presence and traffic control. Satellite trucks need parking, convention centers are reserved and large blocs of hotel rooms are booked as well.

Talks with the city have been going on for some time, the person involved said, and the Mets’ financial problems and court battles were not a factor.

Secret location of 2013 All Star Game to be revealed today

I’m going to miss the weekly Wednesday post about the mysterious location of the 2013 All Star Game.

Word is MLB and New York City have finally figured out:

  • How to have a baseball game in New York City.
  • Where they could hold a large fan convention in New York City.
  • How to hold a parade in New York City.
Our journey reaches its end.  Or has it?

I’m quite impressed that the All Star Game has come together this quickly.  New York has not held the ASG since twenty-aught-eight so they must have been starting from scratch.

The location of the game will be revealed later this morning following assurances that it had been “promised to the Wilpons” and a “done deal” for years.

I’m looking forward to the upcoming ASG discussions.  We will get to discuss the logo, the uniforms, the logistics, and of course the ticket offerings.

I HOPE THE METS REMEMBER THOSE WHO SUPPORTED THEM IN THE DREADFUL OFF-SEASON OF 2011-12.  FAITH SHOULD BE REWARDED!

Some advice for you:

– Go to the fan-fest.  I have been to a few in other cities.  They are very very cool.  Go on a weekday first thing in the morning and you will have the place to yourself.

– I personally think the Home Run Derby sucks on television (I know you kids love it) but in person it’s really cool.  Find a way to be in the outfield seats for the derby.  Don’t get suckered into the porch.  Those low 100’s will be just fine.

– It will be great to see Daniel Murphy at home in his second straight All Star Game.  I mean, assuming that it’s at Citi Field.  The location is still a secret even though “everyone knows.”

Adam Rubin says the press conference will be streamed here at 11:30

Oh and Mets – when you get to the uniform designing stage…use the road font.  A M E R I C A N and N A T I O N A L will look great in the road lettering.  Not so much in the home style script.

SNYs Yearbook Series Set to Revisit 1962 Mets – NYTimes.com

To Mets fans who bleed Orange and Blue, the video, which will be broadcast for the first time on SNY Thursday at 8 p.m., is a precious time capsule. Filmed before the Mets had played an exhibition game, the Mets were still undefeated and fans could dream that George Weiss, the team’s stuffy president, had a plan to produce a contender.
