Still no MLB announcement about the 2013 All Star Game at Citi Field

On January 24, 2007 MLB.com published an article that said

Capping a final emotional year at the current Yankee Stadium in 2008, Major League Baseball is set to announce that the annual Midsummer Classic will be hosted by the Yankees and played at the old yard that July, a baseball source told MLB.com on Wednesday.

The media conference announcing the official awarding of the game is planned for Jan. 31 at New York’s City Hall and will be attended by Commissioner Bud Selig and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the source said, confirming an ESPN report.

January 24th has come and gone and no press conference has been announced.

The 24th was a Wednesday, so perhaps MLB will hold true to form and later today we’ll hear of a February 1st press conference?  (Pure total speculation).

Does it make sense to let the Mets finally have good news and bury it a few days before the Giants Super Bowl?

I would say no.

Will MLB wait another three weeks for this announcement?

Should I put on my tinfoil hat and make up reasons why the Mets won’t get the game after all?

I’m watching…waiting….no game yet….

50th Anniversary Signing – You Own These Mets Jerseys

There were a good number of people who came out for the event on Sunday, and of course when you have that many Mets fans you are going to come across some interesting sights.

So of course we have to do some “You Own This Jersey” pictures.  The first one from Scott I really like.  Not only is Youngblood a great choice for an early 80’s Met, but notice that the name isn’t stitched onto the uniform – it’s on a nameplate!  Now that is detail.

Of course there were a far share of personalized jerseys, such as this one created by Mr. Ingber:

And Shannon will be happy to see that there were #Imwith28 supporters at the show:

Lastly, a jersey you don’t own – but the Mets are trying to get you to own

50th Anniversary Signing – Non Mets

For some reason the sponsors of the 50 Amazin’ Years event this past Sunday decided to bring in a few non-Mets for autograph signings.

OK, so Jim Palmer made sense.  He did pitch against the Mets in the 1969 World Series after all:

However, that can’t be said for either Luis Aparicio or Orlando Cepeda.  Both Hall of Famers yes, but can anyone link them to the Mets?  Well, better than Billy Dee Williams (who at one point was supposed to be showing up too)
