Still catching up on stuff I didn’t get to on vacation…a worthy idea from Greg Prince.
And as far as “sexy” milestone anniversaries are concerned 10th, 20th, 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 75th, 100th, the 50th is the last one that can be counted on to be marked more in living memory than as history, particularly when it comes to the actual participants…in this case, the actual 1962 Mets.
As of this writing, 29 of the 45 men who played for the 1962 New York Mets are still among us. That is to say Jay Hook has ample company. We’ve seen a few of his contemporaries lately. Al Jackson showed up on a Spring Training telecast, too, in team-issued windbreaker and cap, still tutoring Mets pitchers. Frank Thomas joined them on the dais at the BBWAA dinner in January. Choo Choo Coleman was in the audience that night. Joe Pignatano, better known for coaching the bullpen from 1968 through 1981, is alive and well despite hitting into a triple play in the eighth inning of the final game in 1962 his final MLB plate appearance. He’ll be at Hofstra for the 50th Anniversary conference. So will Ed Kranepool, the youngster — 17 then, 67 now — from 1962. I don’t know what catcher Joe Ginsberg, 85 and the oldest of the 1962 alumni, is up to or what he’s up for, but I do know Original third baseman Don Zimmer remains in the employ of the Tampa Bay Rays at the apparently cuddly age of 81.

So far so great
I didn’t even see last night’s game and I could tell everyone was jazzed.
I was at the Springsteen concert (on one of those nights where Mr. Boss Man decided to show off) and could only follow the game on the MLB app. Like you I had my doubts in Pelfrey, but by the time Murph was up in the bottom of the 9th we were all teed up for an #imwith28 session! The hash tag was even nationally trending!
The next campaign will be to get Murphy on the 2012 All Star Team. The 2012 game is in Kansas City by the way. The 2013 game….state secret. Nobody knows.

You gotta love the moves the franchise has made so far. T-Shirt Tuesday is fun, and I don’t see how you can complain about the (other) $2.50 tickets promotion. Bet bodies in the house and get them addicted to Mets baseball. That’s what I have been saying all along. Oh, and the Mets are dressing better than they have in years.
A fast start is so so important. Right now even if they implode they wake up in 1st on Thursday morning. Wins in April count just as much as the ones in September. Let’s hope this roll continues.

FLUSHING, N.Y., April 9, 2012 – The New York Mets and PIX11 today announced they are extending the Mets 50th birthday rollback promotion to tomorrow night’s game at Citi Field to accommodate the overwhelming fan response to the Wednesday, April 11 game for the 1962 reserved price of $2.50.
Rollback tickets for the Tuesday, April 10 game against Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m. are available now online at Mets.com or at the Citi Field Ticket Windows adjacent to the Jackie Robinson Rotunda. As with the sold out allotment of tickets priced at $2.50 for Wednesday’s game, $2.50 seats are located in non-Season Ticket Holder areas in the Promenade Outfield and Left Field Landing. Ticket fees apply to online orders. Tickets purchased at Citi Field carry no fees and will be limited to four per customer.
Regularly priced tickets for Wednesday’s game at 1:10 p.m. are available online at Mets.com, by calling (718) 507-TIXX or at the Citi Field Ticket Windows. Student Rush $10 tickets are also available to high school and college students with valid identification at mets.com/students or at the Citi Field Ticket Windows.
Wednesday’s expected pitching match-up will be Johan Santana against Stephen Strasburg of the Nationals.
