Threatened Willets Point businesses are suing to block eminent domain and development of 1.4 million square foot shopping mall – NY Daily News

Hey look, the MSM covered this!

This gets confusing – this one is about the 126th street side, which is a different project from the mall which will be built on the existing Citi Field parking lot.   So at that point even I am confused – are they building two malls right next to each other?  Anyway, re 126th…

The project has required massive public subsidies: $250 million for 23 acres of land at the site; $35 million for sewer construction; more than $66 million for the construction of new highway ramps; almost $100 million in a grant of taxpayer funds to the Queens Development Group; $42 million in direct financial assistance to the developer-a total of $536 million ponied up by taxpayers.

The article (editorial?) is written by an engineer was hired by Willets Point United (great name for a soccer team) and his findings were that this project will cause local gridlock.

Definitely worth a read and a discussion.

Dwight Gooden had 100 wins before his 25th birthday

Gooden

Kids, I know you get all excited when something good happens in Queens, but I really need to put things in perspective for you.  Today is Matt Harvey’s 25th birthday.  He’s groovy, we all like him.  He has 12 wins and is out for the year.

Now let’s take a look at Dwight Gooden who by age 25 had 100 wins.  One Hundred.

Starting at age 19 he had seasons of 17, 24, 17, 15, 18 and 9 wins.  He had a Cy Young and a ring.

So when I don’t get as excited as Generation Piazza about some things, this is why.  Please understand how great Doc was.  As exciting as half of last season was, you never saw anything as exciting as Dwight Gooden at home on a Friday night during this period.  Nothing.

I hope you get the chance some day.

Here’s to you Doc!
