Is the Black Uniform Evil?

Silly post time. This was inspired for me to put together by a comment the other day to The Secret horrible origins of…The Black Mets Uniforms.

Brian says-I personally think the black Mets outfits are like Spiderman’s black costume, and that they’re trying to eat the team alive. Kill them now while we still can.

1st pic- good Spidey in new duds.

2nd pic -uni becomes evil and wants to kill Spidey.

3rd pic- the uni attaches to Colactus.

I think Brian is onto something.

What’s In Your Collection?

Shannon posts “What’s in your closet?” from time to time. Tom from 408 to Center sent us over some stuff. Heres what he had to say.

Happy opening day. When i got my ticket plan and the watch that came with it i realized i have a pretty nice collection of cool Mets stuff. Seeing all the “what’s in your closet” stuff on your site, I put this one up on mine. Thought you may dig it.

Here is my brick from Shea Stadium. I splurged for the $100 brick that at one time was in the field of play at Shea, before they added padding on the wall.

This is my Mike Piazza autographed baseball. Got this one in person. He was a cool dude.

.

And this is my pride and joy…my Edgardo Alfonzo autographed jersey, shadowboxed and haning on my wall. Fonzie is probably my all time favorite Met. I followed him when he was a minor leaguer all the way to the finish of his career. I wish things could have turned out better for him. But a bad back really derailed him. Either way he was a true professional who had a great approach at the plate. He signed it up the 1 in June of 2000 at a charity function.

Thanks Tom. Tom also has more on his blog. Click here to check it out.

Todays Mets Pre Game Notes

NEW YORK METS (0-1) vs. FLORIDA MARLINS (1-0) (TIED FOR FOURTH PLACE, NL EAST, -1.0 GB) (TIED FOR FIRST PLACE, NL EAST, –)
Saturday, April 2, 2011
LHP Jonathon Niese (9-10, 4.20) vs. RHP Ricky Nolasco (14-9, 4.51)

OPENING DAY TIDBITS: Despite last night’s 6-2 loss, the Mets still have the best winning percentage (32-18, .640) on Opening Day.The loss snapped the Mets major league leading five-game Opening Day winning streak. The Mets are now 2-2 when beginning the season vs. the Marlins, including 1-2 when starting the year at Florida.New York is now 14-11 when starting the season on the road.

GAME TWO: The Mets are 24-25 all-time in the second game of the year and 10-7 following an Opening Day loss.

Grand Slams
It was the first career grand slam allowed by Pelrey and the first grand slam allowed by a Mets pitcher on Opening Day.The Mets surrendered a franchise-record 12 grand slams last season, the most by a major league team since the 2006 Baltimore Orioles also allowed 12 slams.New York went 0-12 last year when allowing a grand slam.

FAMILIAR FACES: The Mets starting battery (Mike Pelfrey and Josh Thole) and infield (Ike Davis, Brad Emaus, Jose Reyes and David Wright) have only played in the major leagues for the Mets…It was the first time in franchise history that the Opening Day starting battery and infield have played in the majors solely for the Mets…The last time that happened in the majors was the 2010 and 2009 Colorado Rockies but prior to that it hadn’t occured since the 1993 San Francisco Giants

DEBUTS: Mets second baseman Brad Emaus, a Rule 5 Draft pick from the Toronto Blue Jays, became the sixth Mets player to make his debut with an Opening Day start.

David Wright made his 1,000 major league start last night…The only other Mets to start 1,000 or more games are Ed Kranepool, Bud Harrelson, Jerry Grote and Cleon Jones…Jose Reyes made his 870th start last night (130 starts from joining the club).

LETS GO METS!

Citi Field to Host Finals for HS Competition

Shannon is still away do to real job commitments.I worked till 430 am this morning due to my real job and I know both he and I are shot. We will try our best today here on Mets Police. On to the post.

The Naugatuck Park and Recreation Commission will be hosting the third annual Pitch Hit & Run competition for boys and girls on May 1st at Naugatuck High School from 10 a.m. till 1 p.m.

The Pitch Hit & Run is the official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball and is sponsored by Aquafina. The competition is open to boys and girls ages 7 to 14 and participation is free.

There are four levels of competition beginning with the May 1st local contest with winners moving on to the sectionals, regionals, team championships (at a MLB ballpark) and finally the National Finals to be held at Citi Field in New York the site of the 2011 Major League All-Star game.

Thats cool. Always a special thing to play on a MLB field. I wonder if the Mets are going to try to sign any of the winners to a contract to replace some of the players coming of the books after this year.

You can read more here about the story.

Update: I missed this but ED Q. caught it.

Citi Field is hosting the 2011 All Star Game? Does Chase Field know? Is this like back in the day when they played 2 All Star Games?

Happens to the best of us now and then. Guess they meant the 2013 game.

It’s not so bad from here

I feel weird not writing so I thought I’d check in.

From the other side of the continent, 0-1 is ok. I’m still optimistic, and My opinions aren’t being shaped by newspapers or sportstalk callers.

I was able to avoid the score all day and watched the game via Slingbox in the middle of the night – until my son got up back east and started using the cable box and he messed me up. Drat, didn’t see that coming. Then again I didn’t think I’d be looking to watch the game at 4am.

Pelfrey needs to step up man.

Any time I travel and get unplugged from the constant email/twitter/blogs check I find it weird. It’s like I am the only Mets fan in the Pacific.

I caught San Francisco on a 75 degree day – I can see how you could easily be persuaded to moving your team from an old stadium in upper Manhattan to a new stadium in a pretty city.

The big story is that a Giants fan was attacked outside Dodger Stadium. Imagine the uproar if it were Phillies/Mets.

No donuts for me, gotta go work. Back to you Media Goon and thanks for minding the store…great job. He’s [email protected] if u have “stuff” to send in.
