Tip of the hat to…the Phillies

Good morning Mets fans,

Just one more week in the season that won’t end.

While risking losing half my audience, I tip my hat to the Phillies. Barring a Randolphian collapse this will be their 4th straight division title (and they’ve clinched a wild card anyway).

Remember back in the summer when it looked like the Braves were leaving them in the dust?

The Phils play you all 162. They are in a new ballpark that is sold out every night. Their management went out and got them another pitcher.

They are scrappy and dirty (messy) and remind me of a dirty scrappy team from my youth.

Isn’t that what we’ve been looking for in Queens? Do you think the 86ers would have quietly let Ollie cash checks all year?

Another good job Phillies. We’ll get you next year!

(I’m not sure I believe that last sentence.)

  1. I think Ollie would have been part of a blanket party like in full metal jacket if he was on the 86 team.

  2. I hate the Phils, especially Utley and Hamels in their GQ arrogance– but you’re spot on your accessment. Those bastards are what I wish my bball team to be.

Can we at least poach Werth off them???

  3. It’s easy to sell out every night when your tickets are affordable at all levels and you only have one team in the market. Otherwise they run a good ship down there. They don’t settle for being good. They want to be great and they use their resources to do so.
