My take on the Mets 2011 ticket prices

I’m just a fat guy in a basement, with a small brain, but here’s what I gather.

Yes, overall tickets are less expensive.

Guys like me?  I think the invoice for my weekend 15 game plan upstairs will be less.

Guys like you?   Many of you will choose to sit in better seats for the same amount of money you are used to spending.  That’s good, right?   Some of you will pay a buck or so more for a game if you don’t buy a plan.   Why….

I find it surprising that Dave’s data revealed that the Promenade seats were being resold on Stubhub at great profit.  Nothing makes me think Dave is a liar, and he has access to data I don’t have access to.  I find that quite surprising.  At a personal level, I resold OK early in the season and not so OK later in the season.

Several people picked up on Dave Howard saying “Saturday focused plan.”   That makes me think that we’re heading toward 10/5 plans but when I asked Dave about it last night he left the door open that they are still working on it.  In the WFAN interview Dave also mentioned an “Opener Pack.”

Francesa pointed out that the 4 tiers are kinda sorta 3 since the only games in the top are the Opener and the Yankee games.  I guess…but why do I have to get jacked to attend to the opener.  That annoys me.   I guess they know they’ll sell those out so they jack ’em.  So if the Mets win the World Series will we get jacked in 2012?  I would have to guess yes.

Overall…it’s good not great.

I will renew because I like going to games with Junior.  If I don’t have the tickets we’ll never go.  Am I a fool?  Possibly.  There’s no price on memories, so I’m gonna pay the freight.

The Mets are having a good coupla weeks.  It has been a while.  I hope it lasts.

What do you guys think?  Will you buy tickets?  Seasons?  Plans?  Nothing?

  1. The Mets could still entice me with a plan, but right now I think I will just be going to a handful of games in April & May.

I think I’ll spend my summer weekends watching minor league ball in Trenton, Newark & Brooklyn where my dollars go further.

  2. If 7 packs or 15 game plans are available in the Prom Res. Infield, I’ll most likely pick one up! You’re right about memories Shannon… despite a bad season, the memories I have from being at games with my girlfriend are mostly awesome. Let’s go Mets!

  3. I will be one of the guys who will try to upgrade to better more affordable seats. I am willing to pay an average of $50 to $55 a ticket and feel there are some good locations available for that price. I am a Met fan and feel my support of the team through bad times will help them to have the resources to be better quicker. This is the 1st year of Citi Field’s existence that I will not feel taken advantage of when I pay my plan invoice.

  4. I’m hoping to see some pick-your-own ticket packs like the Phillies/Red Sox etc offer. You basically pick 1 premium game and 5-6 other crappy games. The cost of the pack depends on what games you choose. If I could get a Prom Res Inf of those, then I’m in. Otherwise, as of now, I’m not getting anything, but I am intrigued by the discount. I may fold as Opening Day gets closer for a 15 game plan, but the reality is that I only like Friday games. Give me a 15 game plan with the Opener (a Fri) and all the other Friday, and I just might hop on it. For now, I agree with Shannon, its good, but not great.

On a side note, my friend Seth and I came up with an idea for tickets which will never happen. But I figure this is a good forum for pitching it: a premium game implies 2 playoff teams playing, a gold game is 1 good team with one mediocre team, a silver is 2 mediocre teams (or 1 good team and 1 bad team), and value game is 2 bad teams…therefore, with the current state of the Mets, there should never be a premium or gold game. Once the team finishes in the top 2, then they could re-institute gold and/or premium. Since this is an incentive based system, this would force the owners to put the best product on the field…its an investment…you finish in a better place, you can charge more for tickets next year. I know its unrealistic (and maybe I didn’t explain it well in print), but it would make me feel better as a fan that we’re all invested and not getting shafted…like there is a method to the madness of the 70+ price points. Just throwing it out there…

  5. The ticket prices for the Promenade level are returning to the 2009 first season at citi field level. Two years ago we cringed at that price increase. Now we think this is a good deal? The reason the Prom level seats resold on stubhub above face value was that even paying twice the face made those tickets the cheapest way to see a ball game. You want those field level seats to sell at twice the price? lower the face value, then when they get jacked up on stub hub no one will think they are outrageously expensive. I would love to see a ball game where the players look life size, but even at these new reduced prices I will not be able to afford that.
