Mets pre-game notes for March 19th

Today’s split-squad game vs. the Nationals is on TV and radio.  Oliver Perez is scheduled to pitch in that game in relief of Capuano.

Dan Murphy starts at 2B vs the Nationals, Eamus starts at 2B in the other game.

TODAY’S METS STARTER (vs. Nats) :LHP CHRIS CAPUANO will make his third spring start today…He tossed 5.0 shutout innings allowing two hits with four strikeouts in a minor league game on March 13… Capuano allowed two runs on five hits over4.0 innings in a no-decision vs. Washingtonon March 8…He pitched 3.0 innings on March 2 vs. St. Louis yielding three hits andone run with four strikeouts…Capuano, 32,went 4-4 with a 3.95 ERA in 24 appearanceslast year with the Milwaukee Brewers…Hewas 3-3 with a 4.14 ERA in nine starts and 1-1 with a 3.54 ERA (eight earned runs/20.1innings) in 15 relief outings…Capuano, a former All-Star, is 46-52 with a 4.35 ERA in148 career major league games, 125 starts.  He was named to the 2006 National..League All-Star team, going 11-12 with a 4.03 ERA (99 earned runs/221.1 IP)…Hewas tied for the NL lead with 25 quality starts that year…His best season came in 2005when he won 18 games and struck out 176.

TODAY’S METS STARTER (vs. Atlanta) :LHP PAT  MISCH is making his second startof the spring…He is 2-0 with a 3.86ERA…Picked up the win on March 13, working 3.2 innings and allowing three runson four hits…Misch was 0-4 with a 3.82 ERAin 12 games, six starts for the Mets in2010…He racked up 23 strikeouts in 37.2 innings…Misch began the season in thestarting rotation for Buffalo (AAA) of the International League before the Mets selected his contract on August 14…Misch struck out a career-best 10 batters in 8.0 innings on October 1 vs. the Nationals…The lefthander split his time with the Mets between the rotation and the bullpen,making six starts and six relief appearancesWent 0-4 as a starter, pitching to a 4.28…ERA (16 earned runs/33.2 innings).
