The daily Mets ticket sales article

The WSJ does the rounds…quotes some #s, gets someone to compare it to the 70’s, mentions the secondary market…

Last night’s paid crowd was 26,546 on a Friday night

Going into Friday night’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, the Mets—who going into Friday’s game had the worst record in Major League Baseball—were averaging a paid attendance of 30,184, down 6.8% from last season’s number of 32,401. They had not drawn more than 40,000 fans since Opening Day

  1. If there were 26.5K there, they must have been counting by 100. I’ll say it again that the Mets have definitely learned a skill or two from Bernie Madoff’s accountant. Gotta keep those advertisers happy!

  2. I refuse to pay attention to any more “ticket sales are down” articles unless they acknowledge just how bad the April weather has been. When was the last day that the weather has been nice enough to encourage any walk-up sales?

  3. Which begs the question that unless you like to throw your money into a burning hole in the ground, what kind of maroon is going to walk up and pay their hard earned money to watch this?

Oh wait, the Wilpons have been throwing theirs and the Madoff victims’ money in the garbage for a quarter century.
