Video of Seaver reacting emotionally to The Trade 35 years later

Well 34 technically.  Look, watch this and then try to compare the departure of other players to this.  Crying by your locker and getting teary with Costas all these years later, as opposed to casually chilling with Burkhardt.

Double blue cap tip for Cerrone!  I went looking for this clip on Sunday and couldn’t find it.

Maybe MLB Advanced Media read Metsivus and decided to allow sharing technology.

  1. When Seaver was traded, I was 12…I kind of took him for granted my whole life till then…my favorite Met was Dave Kingman at the time. I started to hate Seaver after the trade, as a loyal 12 year old Met fan might…he now played with the hated Pete Rose. Amazing how you perceive the same event differently at different times of your life. If you went back in time and undid the trade, maybe the Mets don’t hit rock-bottom and don’t win in 1986. I guess everything happens for a reason.

  2. Yeah you’re right, the Mets’ callous treatment of Jose Reyes – and of course, the fan base – was not as bad as Seaver. That was worse. He was The Franchise. Reyes was only half the franchise. But the thing is, it’s second on a bad list, ahead of Straw. And that makes it very bad indeed.

  3. sooo seaver got teary eyed  with costas instead of chilling with burkhardt. i don’t get the point. on MLB i saw a 67 year old man looking at a rough time is his life being traded and the reasons he asked for the trade. deep down maybe he felt sad  because the “script” called him to retire a met and move up instead leave the way he did.
he waited for the team to go on the road then pack and leave. i remember  that day like it was yesterday. i got choked up then, and felt misty looking at him comment on it during the interview. tom seaver,my mets idol. i was 9 years old when he was a rook. no met will ever step into his cleats ! seaver ,the first mets “un-official captain” !!! it was nice looking at some one from my child hood. show honest feelings..

may be 34 years from now david wright  will do an interview and chill with ken  burkkhardt.
