On Reyes: The Mets let us know who they are

I’m already bored with the Reyes topic, but it stuck in my head all night.

When I got home last night the Mets were winning 1-0 (I had listened to Howie on the drive home), and when I got home I realized I didn’t want to get involved with this game.  I really wasn’t feeling the Mets yesterday.

So I started the DVR and began watching the second episode of ESPN’s super awesome 30 for 30 on O.J. Simpson.

The story was up to the part about where O.J. was arrested for beating Nicole.  No, not killing Nicole, the earlier arrest where he had beaten her.

As 30 for 30 tells the story, after the incident happened O.J. eventually went on a media tour.  There he is with Roy Firestone, explaining how the incident was overblown.  Roy asks Juice some questions about O.J.’s image, and a smiling Juice tells us all the story was overblown, and nothing to worry about.

Who doesn’t love O.J.?  The Juice could run the ball, he was fun in movies, could fly through airports and here he was explaining the news story.

That stayed in my head all night.

Now I’m not suggesting that any Mets will be driving down the Grand Central Parkway in a Bronco, but the documentary did make me realize how many Mets fans, including some highly visible “prominent” Mets fans, just opened their arms to welcome Jose Reyes back yesterday: It’s Jose, he hits triples, he has that great smile, and let’s all party like it’s 2006 again.

The Mets have let us know that anything is OK if it will help the bottom line.  The Rockies have told us the exact opposite.
