The Lost Mets Police posts #3: The Mets’ Trade Chips: Ike Davis and Daniel Murphy – Bloomberg Sports

As we celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Mets Police, I thought it would be fun to go back and dust off some “Unscheduled Draft” posts. Behind the scenes if you write a post and don’t publish it, it saves as a draft. And there seem to be a ton of them. Some complete, some incomplete. Let’s have a fun stroll through the blog Outtakes.

Here’s a fun one from November 11, 2013.  Seems I was going to make some sort of point about Daniel Murphy.

Note the original outtake did not have an image attached.

Murphy’s a surprisingly good player, one who doesn’t get enough attention despite playing in the largest market in baseball. He was the seventh-most valuable 2B in 2013 at 3 WAR, and has two more years of team control through arbitration. Middle infield positions are often difficult to fill, and this year’s free agent market offers a premium option in Robinson Cano, the mid-tier Omar Infante, and not much else. Mark Ellis is a solid player, but at 37 next year should not be a Plan A.
