Daniel Murphy could have been…..the all time Mets hit leader

This blog really is a more public version of the emails I have been trading with friends since we had email…which was a variant on the conversations we had in the schoolyards.  This post comes from an email conversation with the fellas.

Daniel Murphy very easily could have been the Mets Hit King and one of the ALL TIME METS.

Life is full of What Ifs?  Surely Doc Gooden could have made the Hall.  Surely David Wright could have had an even better career,   Neither happened…and Murph’s alternate reality didn’t happen either.

That said, it’s fun to look at Murph’s 1421 career hits as he approaches David Wright’s 1777.   In a world where Gare wasn’t poisoning the well on TV, in a world where the beat reporters didn’t set #TheNarrative that Ike Davis was the Chosen One, in a world where Murph didn’t make homophobic comments, we could be looking at Murph being the new Mets Hit King sometime in 2020, maybe early 2021.   Alas, it is not meant to be.

Did you know WAR proves that Keon Broxton is better than Murph?  I mean clearly he is.
Broxton’s 2018 amazing stat line is .179 4 and 11 is a 1.6 WAR!!!    He must e really good at defense (and of course running bases).
Murphs .299 12 and 42 was a -0.8 in WAS and -0.2 In CHC   Clearly a net negative.
I would not want someone whose 10 year career average is .299 15 and 81 on my team thats for sure.
Also not a client of Wags.
