Mets Police Morning Laziness: Post realizes Wags hosed the future

Lets”s begin with this from the Post, I like this a lot.

They traded key prospects Jarred Kelenic, Justin Dunn, Anthony Kay and Simeon Woods Richardson for Robinson Cano, Edwin Diaz and Marcus Stroman, and they did not make the playoffs last year. Stroman, like Bauer, was obtained with his 2020 walk year in mind. So either he will pitch less in his walk year or become a free agent without pitching at all.

The trade with the Mariners, already looking disastrous with Kelenic growing into a top prospect while Cano and Diaz faltered last year, can only be revived if the Mets receive a lot out of Cano and Diaz. As one NL executive said of what missing games does to that Mets’ trade: “It takes an egregious screwup and makes it worse.  (via NY Post)

It’s a wonderful article with lots of Doom and Gloom, and reminds us that the 2021 rotation is Jake and Matz and a lot of ????

Good job Wags!

Here’s some No Kidding Sherlock non-news for you…

A reunion between Matt Harvey and the Mets doesn’t seem likely, as MLB.com’s Anthony DiComo writes that the Amazins “weren’t interested” in Harvey over the offseason and he doesn’t believe the club has been in contact with the right-hander. Given some of the off-the-field controversy that surrounded Harvey during his previous tenure in New York, it probably isn’t a surprise that the Mets have seemingly closed the door on their former All-Star. Aside from a tryout with the Blue Jays earlier this winter, Harvey hasn’t been publicly linked to any teams since his minor league deal with the Athletics expired at the end of the season. Harvey has posted a 5.89 ERA over 307 1/3 innings with the Mets, Reds, and Angels since undergoing thoracic outlet syndrome surgery midway through the 2016 season. (via MLB Trade Rumors)

Wait..so the Mets aren’t going to reunite with a guy that had a bad breakup, and pitched to a 7+ ERA last year before being left off his AAA team’s playoff roster?  You don’t say.  Wow.  News!

SLACKISH REACTION: I have decided not to force The Morning Laziness every day.  If there is something to write about I will write (today being an example), but if all I am going to do is check in to tell you nothing is going on I am going to skip the empty calories (like I did yesterday).

As you have seen, most of the Mets conversation is scraping the bottom of the barrel – “will Lowrie contribute” or “immature man-child with propensity for vulgarity likes the black uniforms” – none of that interests me to comment on.
