Mets donate 100,000 masks to the MTA…it has nothing to do with real estate right?

I am so cynical. I see the story that the Mets donated 100,000 masks to the MTA….the masks are blue and orange and say New York Tough….and my mind wonders WHY the Mets did this?  Could there possibly be some angle beyond being nice?

“Providing masks is our way of saying thank you to these brave individuals for all they are doing during the pandemic,” said Mets COO Jeff Wilpon. (via MTA.com)

Hmmm. What a nice thing to do.

In the article is quoted a man named Pat Foye.  I thought I would google Pat Foye Jeff Wilpon and see what came up.

Oh look, they have a friend in common – Governor Cuomo’s son Governor Cuomo.  Here is an excerpt Andrew Cuomo’s schedule on November 1, 2015.

Then there’s this from the Queens Gazette. The bold is mine.

“I just want to acknowledge first, Pat Foye, the Executive Director of the Port Authority, who has been doing a great job, and the whole Board at the Port Authority. George Casey and the LGP team who really worked it through…Michael Minerva, American Airlines, JetBlue, United, Southwest and Air Canada, thank you for the partnership and thank you for seeing this through with us. We’ve been having good conversations with Ed Bastian and Mr. Kuykendall from Delta airlines, so we thank them and welcome them here today. Our great neighbor, Jeff Wilpon, we’re very excited about the synergy between what we’re doing here and the stadium and Willetts Point.

So…is it nice to donate masks?  Sure is!

Is it possibly also about keeping your friends happy so you can develop your real estate….especially post-pandemic when the MTA will be far under-resourced, and maybe we don’t really need a train to LGA that starts at Willets Point?   You tell me.
