Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #57: Joe Jackson

The player Babe Ruth modeled his swing after is the 57th inductee into the Baseball Hall of Immortals.

Joe Jackson only played for 13 years but during that time he established himself as the best left fielder in the game, both at the plate and in the field.  Hitting .408 in his first full season, Jackson would go on to bat .356 for his career, good for 3rd all-time.

A hitting machine, Jackson surpassed 200 hits in a season four times, including his final season in 1920.  That season also saw him leading the league in triples with 20, the third time he would do that.

In the field he could seemingly track down any ball hit to the left side of the outfield, and with an arrm like a cannon, no runner was safe.

Regardless of what he may have done in 1919, his play proves that Joe Jackson was an Immortal.
