Baseball Hall of Immortals – Inductee #58: Sam Crawford

The only man to hit more than 300 triples is the 58th inductee into the Baseball Hall of Immortals.

Wahoo Sam Crawford became one of the first stars of the new American League when he jumped from the Cincinnati Reds to the Detroit Tigers in 1903.  During that first year while sharing the outfield with Ty Cobb, Crawford batted .335 with 23 doubles and 25 triples.

Starting in 1907, Crawford would lead the Tigers to the first of 3 consecutive penants, batting over .300 in each year and collecting more than 100 doubles (this during the dead ball era).

In total, Crawford played for 19 years, batting over .300 eleven times, leading the league in triples six times, and RBIs three times.  In addition to his 309 career triples he also stole 367 bases

One of the best players of the dead ball era, Sam Crawford is an Immortal
