What’s the difference between today’s weather and Pete Alonso? (game notes included)

While The Big Zero was opting out and my kids were asking for rides, my friends the Mets sent some notes over.  You will likely hear Keith Hernandez share some of these tonight.

J.D. Davis is on a career-high 13-game hitting streak…He is batting .372 (16-43) with seven runs, a double, three home runs, 11 RBI, seven walks, a .462 OBP and a .605 SLG in that span… It is tied for the second longest active streak in the majors…Davis is eighth in the NL with a .327 batting average and 10th with a .414 OBP…Davis has the sixth-highest OPS in the NL since last season’s All-Star break (min. 250 PA)…His .972 OPS ranks just behind Christian Yelich’s (.977) and just ahead of Juan Soto’s (.963).

Andrés Giménez is hitting .333 (11-33) with five runs, a double, a triple, an RBI, a walk and three steals this year…He is batting .370 (10-27) in seven starts this season…Giménez entered the season as the third-best Mets prospect and the No. 84 overall prospect in the majors, per MLB Pipeline…After spending the 2019 season with Binghamton (AA), the Venezuelan shortstop led the Arizona Fall League with a .371 (26-70) average and .999 OPS.

Michael Conforto has safely reached base in all 16 games this season…He is batting .310 (18-58) with seven runs, three doubles, three home runs, nine walks, two steals, eight RBI, a .412 OBP and a .517 SLG…He enters the day tied for sixth in the NL with 18 hits, is 11th in OBP and is 12th in average…Conforto has hit 112 home runs in his career which is 12th on the Mets all-time list…Ed Kranepool is 11th with 118 followed by Edgardo Alfonso who is 10th with 120…Conforto has three homers in 26 at-bats vs. LHP this season…This compares to six homers in 174 AB vs. lefties last season.

But there’s one player we haven’t mentioned, and he is bad at bending cap brims.

Pete Alonso | INF | .197, 2 HR, 6 RBI, 0 SB

And now the answer to today’s riddle…

Holy Polar Bear Batman!   Pete Alonso is not hot at all, unlike today’s weather.  He’s batting under .200 with 2 home runs and 23 strikeouts in 74 plate appearances.    His strikeout average is .310!

Always trade high Old Chum.
