Mets BENCH PETE ALONSO vs Max Scherzer!! Plus Game Notes….

Vulgar Pete Alonso, pictured above after striking out last night, is not in tonight’s lineup.   The Mets face Max Scherzer and Dom “The Alarm” Smith will man first base while Jeff McNeil serves as the DH again Max Scherzer who is too good of a pitcher to risk starting the struggling Pete.   Lifetime vs. Scherzer Vulgar Pete is .154 (2-13), 2B, 8 K.  Interestingly that looks like his line vs everyone in 2020.

Pete has struck out 24 times in just 78 Plate Appearances which is 30.7% of the time.  His OPS, which is a thing millennials like where they add two numbers together in an attempt to get a big number is .641, so their mathematical jujitsu is not working in this case.

Dom Smith has an extra base hit in four consecutive games:(three doubles and a homerun. Hashtag #32B&HR).  One time he overslept and was taught lesson by Mickey Hodges, the legendary manager who forever changed the Mets’ culture of losing and having injuries.  Dom was sentenced to sit the rest of his career watching a guy strike out every third AB.

In other exciting Mets news, my friends the Mets sent me some notes!

First let’s see what jerseys @mediagoon will be purchasing:

RHP Brad Brach has been reinstated from the IL.

RHP Walker Lockett has been reinstated from the IL.

RHP Paul Sewald has been optioned to the team’s Alternate Training Site.

C Ali Sánchez has been optioned to the team’s Alternate Training Site.

Can you name all 30 Mets? Or 28 Mets? Or whatever the rules are now?

Andrés Giménez is hitting .297 (11-37) with five runs, a double, a triple, an RBI, a walk and three steals this year…He is batting .323 (10-31) in seven starts this season…Giménez entered the season as the third-best Mets prospect and the No. 84 overall prospect in the majors, per MLB Pipeline…After spending the 2019 season with Binghamton (AA), the Venezuelan shortstop led the Arizona Fall League with a .371 (26-70) average and .999 OPS.

My favorite Met, Rick Porcello tonight makes his fourth start of the season…In his last start, August 5 at Nationals Park, needed just 81 pitches to complete 7.0 innings of one-run ball en route to his first win of the season…Was his first win as a New York Met and the 150th win of his major league career…Allowed just one earned run on five hits with four punchouts and did not walk a batter for the first time this season.

Porcello tonight makes his second consecutive start against Washington…He’s faced the Nats three times in his career and beaten them each time…He’s 3-0 with a 2.57 ERA (six earned runs/21.0 innings)…He has thrown a quality start all three times he’s faced the club.

INNING EATER: Porcello completed at least 6.0 frames in 207 starts during the 2010s, making him one of just 13 pitchers who made at least 200 starts of at least 6.0 innings in the last 10 seasons…Porcello is one of just 10 pitchers in the modern era to throw at least 162.0 innings in each of his first 11 major league seasons…He’s the only active pitcher who has done so.  You will hear Ron mention this tonight when he talks about tomorrow’s bullpen day or Lockett day or whatever the plan is.

RELIABLE RICK: Over the last four years (2016-2019), Porcello and Justin Verlander are the only pitchers in the majors to make 32 or more starts each season…He is the only qualifying pitcher to average fewer than 3.0 walks per nine innings in each of the last 11 seasons.

Oh I almost forgot.   LGM.    Say it Pete.  LGM.  Say it and I will lift the curse.  Renounce Vulgarity!!!!
