The first player to hit a homerun for his 3,000th hit is the 84th inductee into the Baseball Hall of Immortals.
Wade Boggs joined the Red Sox in 1982, hitting .349 in his first 104 games. This was a sign of things to come for the left-handed hitting third baseman. In his second season, Boggs led the league in batting with a .361 average. This would be his first of five batting titles over six years, topping at .368 in 1985, the highest by a Red Sox player since Ted Williams hit .388 in 1957.
Boggs manned the hot corner in Boston for 11 seasons, compiling a .338 batting average and almost 2,100 hits during that time.
Moving to the Yankees for the next 5 seasons, Bogss would win his only World Series title in 1996, batting .311 that season.
Boggs would end his career with the expansion Tampa Bay Devil Rays, where he would get his 3,000th hit.
One of the purest hitters in the American League over the last 40 years, Wad Boggs is an Immortal.
