Currently ranked #1 favorite Met Taijuan Walker will make his Mets debut today…Last season, he split time with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays before signing with New York as a free agent on February 20 to a two-year deal with a player option for 2023…From 2018-2020, Walker made 15 starts…He underwent Tommy John surgery on April 14, 2018 and missed nearly the entire 2019 season as he recovered from that elbow injury.

Last year, Dom Smith ranked among major league leaders in doubles (21, second), OPS (.993, seventh), SLG (.616, fifth), RBI (42, tied for 10th), XBH (32, tied for fourth)and average (.316, 12th)…Despite playing just 50 games, had a career-high 56 hits, 21 doubles and 42 RBI and yet wasn’t allowed to play on Opening Day.

Pete Alonso is on a career-high nine game hitting streak… Alonso is batting .424 (14-33) with eight runs, three doubles, five home runs, 11 RBI, six walks, a steal, a .513 OBP and a .970 in the streak that dates back to September 22, 2020…It surpasses his previous high of eight games, which he accomplished from September 1-9, 2019…Overall in three games this year, Alonso is batting .308 (4-13) with three runs, a double, a home run, three RBI, two walks and a 1.015 OPS.

Jeff McNeil celebrates his 29th birthday today…Hall of Famer Gary Carter was also born on this day in 1954.
