Happy Birthday Dom Smith Mets game notes

The Mets are very quietly coasting to a division title.  I don’t even think they have played that well, but no other team scans me.  Hopefully Sandy and Acting Regional General Manager Z. Michael Scott realize they need 2 maybe 3 maybe 4 SPs (The Big Zero being the only spot I am not worried about) and they realize taking Vulgar Pete is the only way to get that kind of return.

The Mets are a season-high eight-games above .500 for the second time this season…The team has not been nine games above .500 since the end of the 2019 season…The Mets have been in first place since Saturday, May 8…This is their longest streak atop the NL East since the end of the 2015 season…Tonight, the team continues a seven game homestand (3-1) against the Padres (2-1) and Cubs (1-0)…Following this series, the Mets head to the nation’s capital for four games in three days against the Nationals.

Dominic Smith celebrates his 26th birthday today…Smith went 2-3 with a home run, two runs, an RBI and a walk in last night’s win…Smith is batting .302/.347/.395 against left-handed pitchers this year…but he overslept once so he’s not the everyday 1B.

These are Pete Alonso’s numbers at home: .183 (11-60), HR.  Today is June 15th.

The Mets have homered in 15 of their last 18 games and 12 of their last 14…The Mets are 23-15 when hitting at least one home run and 10-4 when hitting two or more bombs…The Mets have hit 60 home runs this year, the third- fewest in the majors…On the other hand, the Mets have allowed only 45 home runs this season which is the fewest in MLB…They own a 0.82 home runs per 9 IP ratio… That is the second-best mark in the majors.  One time at home even Pete Alonso homered.  Once.
