Hey Rufies – Huge Exciting Move! Mets get…… Darin Ruf for 4 guys?

Teamowner (seems great on paper and let’s face it, he just wants to be loved) and the Mets are excited about this one…they seem particularly excited about his ability to…..walk.

Sources tell me the Mets plan to introduce a fan rooting section called the Rufies which will include a ticket package that comes with a drink.

METS ACQUIRE INF/OF DARIN RUF FROM SAN FRANCISCO

FLUSHING, N.Y., August 2, 2022 – The New York Mets have announced that the club has acquired infielder/outfielder Darin Ruf from San Francisco in exchange for infielder J.D. Davis, LHP Thomas Szapucki, minor league RHP Carson Seymour and minor league LHP Nick Zwack. Ruf is signed through the 2023 season with a team option for 2024.

Ruf, 36, slashed .216/.328/.373 with 11 home runs and 38 RBI in 90 games for the Giants this season, including a .252/.364/.523 line against left-handed pitchers. Ruf has drawn 40 walks and his 12.7 percent walk rate ranks fifth in the National League. In his career, Ruf has posted a .929 OPS against southpaws, good for the 15th-best mark among all active players (min. 500 plate appearances vs. LHP).

The Omaha, Nebraska native has started 66 games this season, including 29 at first base, 17 in left field, 17 as DH, and three in right field.

He has appeared in 533 games spanning eight major league seasons with Philadelphia (2012-2016) and San Francisco (2020-2022), hitting 67 home runs and driving 195 runs. Between those stints in MLB, Ruf spent three seasons with Samsung in the KBO, where he put up a .313/.404/.564 line with 105 doubles, 86 home runs and 350 RBI in 404 games.
