The 1976 New York Mets Yearbook Cover

We’ve been poking around Angel’s collection of Mets yearbooks.   ’76 we’d expect something Bicentennial right?  Belive em in 1976 Bicentennial was HUGE.  Everything was Bicentennial.  I mean EVERYTHING.  See that 76 on Mr. Met’s jersey…that particular 76 font was all over the place.

I’ve made it my life goal to be at the Tricentennial which will put me into my 100’s…however maybe I’d like to be around for 2086 so I can bitch about the 100th anniversary patches in one last post before I croak.  I’ll be the one guy who gives a crap about the 1986 team.  Oh wait, I think I was on Sunday.  KIDDING relax.

I actually like this better than anything we’ve seen since 1968.

You own this Mets jersey: RA Dickey

Chris sent this over from HOF Day.  Amazin’

I don’t think the actual RA Dickey has ever worn a pinstriped RA Dickey jersey!

(Chris I’ll post the rest of your stuff as the week rolls by.  I’m writing this at 10pm last night and my eyes are getting very heavy.  Mets are down 4-1 in the 8th so I haven’t experienced the great comeback win yet.)

I support Megdal for GM

We’re running the Primary Election this week to see if y’all want Howard Megdal for Mets GM.

You can vote in the center orange column of the main Mets Police page.  (If you’re an email subscriber or on Google reader you’ll have to come visit the site).

ESPN New York (which is bringing it this week) published Megdal’s case…from which I excerpt.

For example, there will be a return to such traditions as “Banner Day,” “Old-Timers’ Day” and “Helmet Day.” Theme dates will provide entertainment value and a gift people actually want to take home. The Mets will no longer limit giveaways to “the first 25,000 fans,” or worse, “the first 5,000 fans 12 and under,” leaving some children who might be attending their first Mets game with the twin disappointment of getting stuck in traffic, then getting to watch other children play with the toy they were too late to receive.

New promotions will be introduced. Much as Broadway shows often have “student rush” seats, the Mets should put aside a few sections right behind home plate — the ones near the field that cost way too much — and let anyone with a valid student ID purchase a seat in them for $10 apiece on the day of the game. For a temporary tiny revenue loss, the Mets get the advantage of reaching out to their youngest fans, making potential customers for decades. They also make it clear that, unlike their rivals across town, the Mets aren’t looking to milk fans for every last dollar. Best of all, what is now a tomb-like feel to the area closest to the playing field will become a raucous home-field advantage for the team and a three-hour advertisement during every ballgame for how much fun it is to come to Citi Field.

Now that’s change I can believe in!   Also, in exchange for my support Megdal has promised Lee Mazzilli Poster Night II.  All fans will receive a replica of the original Lee Mazzilli poster.

Megdal’s plan is a little nutty, but when you read the article I bet you’ll support his cause.  I hope you’ll join me in voting YES to Megdal.

Megdal for GM

You own this A’s jersey (really): Ron Darling!

This blog is starting to scare me.   I’m amazed at the sheer amount of content that flows in – lately I’ve had like 10 posts a day – and I’m very thankful.

Some of you seemed to enjoy yesterday’s “A’s Police” tantrum..but the winner of the day is Charles who OWNS THIS!

Seriously, when stuff like this flows in I start to think people are paying attention to this weird collection of rants, news, and off jerseys.

You’re gonna have to pull a Kingman to beat Charles.
