"Earlier" Start Times For World Series

I guess it’s better than nothing….

“We are working with baseball and I think we all have the same agenda,” said Fox Sports president Ed Goren. “And this is to get to first pitch more efficiently than we have in the past. We are continuing to have discussions to make that happen.”

Although Goren declined to provide specifics, an industry source to told the newspaper that the plan could call for the first pitch to be thrown between 7:50 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. ET. That would be about 30 minutes earlier than in recent seasons.

7:59 is better than 8:29 but these are not the start times we are looking for.   It sucks when you watch your team all year and have to fall asleep during the playoffs.

Don’t whine to me about California, more than 50% of the US population lives in the eastern time zone, and I’d rather miss the first inning than the 9th.  Plus it’s easier to sneak the game/tape the game/listen on the radio/follow on the web, than it is to stick toothpicks under your eyes at 12:35am.   Remember those classic 11pm first pitches for Diamondbacks-Mets?

While we’re talking start times, a pox on the Padres for not playing the Mets at 4:05 Monday.

List of 2009 Mets Enemies

Welcome to the first installment of Mets Enemies.

We’ve played exactly one game, but we already have people to “hate on.”

The list so far…and I invite your suggestions.

1.  The San Diego Padres.

I want them to lose 122 games.  I want them to draw 4,000 fans per game.  I want them to go bankrupt and be moved to Puerto Rico by the commissioner’s office.

Why?  Because the Padres can’t possibly play at 4:05 on Monday, instead we’ll get to open our new stadium in 39 degree weather…union rules blah blah and other lame excuses.  Just play a day game.

2.  The Florida Marlins.

I want them to lose 121 games.  They already draw 4,000 fans.  I want their new stadium funding to be lost.  I want the commissioner’s office to take them over and move them to Montreal.

Why?  Because they decided to play at 6pm on Saturday, and our next enemy has a exclusivity window and won’t let us see the Mets game.

3.   Fox.

Really Fox?  Will the world end if you let SNY televise the Mets game from 6 to 7pm against your precious window of exclusivity?  We’re either going to watch the Yankee game or not.  Whether or not the Mets are on doesn’t affect my interest level in the Yankees.  Maybe YES should ask SNY to black out tonight’s game.  Ridiculous?  Exactly.

4.  Flo-Rida.

Flo-Rida is now an Enemy of the Mets.  I don’t want to hear any of his music played at Citi Field ever.

Why?  Because he’s having a post-game concert at the Marlins game, which is why the game is at 6, which is why it’s not televised.  No Flo-Rida, no concert.  No concert, game is at 7.  Game at 7, it’s on TV.

Flo-Rida brings the enemy list from one to four.  That’s a lot for only one game, and the Phillies haven’t ran their mouths yet.

Any suggestions?

The Citi Field Security Wears "Phillies Red"

One of the most common complaints about Citi Field so far is a minor one, but fun for a slow day.

Security wears the same red as the Phillies.

I don’t know the psychology of having security wear red (doesn’t red bring out anger in people?) but I really don’t get why Philles red.

So I was standing by “Right Field Gate” (this new nomenclature is weird) on Friday and the color bothered me…so I asked the guy, “Why Phillies red?”

He said, quite frustrated, that he had been hearing a lot of that.

Later on by the gift shop I heard another fan giving that guard a hard time.  That guard too was sick of it.

I ran into a really nice cool “head security” guy so I asked him.  His explanation…(paraphrasing)

“All you guys wear blue and orange so we needed to stand out.”

That actually made and makes sense to me, so I smiled, accepted his reasoning and shook his hand.   I still think they could have picked lime green or something but at least there was a reason.

After attending one game I’m finding the security at both stadiums very friendly.  The Citi ushers were much nicer than they ever were at Shea (where their hand was in a permanent “tip” position).  The Yankee ushers are not so pleasant.

Video: Can You See From The Last Rows Of The Citi Field Promenade?

A tip of the blue Mets hat to Amazin’ Avenue who told us about this video from the last row of the LF Promenade at Citi Field.

I agree with Amazin’.  These aren’t bad.  Much better than the obstructed views in 504, or the obstructed views in 529.

For all things obstructed check out The Obstructions At Citi and The Obstructions at Yankee.

UPDATE:  This video comes from The ‘Ropolitans.  Do the right thing and give them a visit.
