Post: Mets seek more loans

I know nothing about finance.  This may be “normal” or this may be “panic.”

From the Upper Deck (I mean Promenade – which is a dopey name by the way) it appears as if I will learn what it is like to be a fan of a small market club with no resources to add players.

Let’s hope that Omar left us a good farm system.  I’m sure he did.

JPMorgan Chase — which led the banks that loaned the team about $430 million last year — is trying to recruit other institutions to join a syndicate to put together a new loan that would tide the Mets over until they sell a minority stake in the ballclub.

Summer of 86 on MSG tonight

Set the DVR’s…(I can’t stay up past 10, I am old)..and set them to run long in case the Knicks/Rangers make these things start late.

And to self plug….check out my How I Met The Mets videos…now imagine I had access to Ray Knight and Howie Rose and better editing like in the above videos….it really is the same model.  Hey MSG, need a series?  This is a winner.

New York, NY – January 26, 2011 – The 1986 New York Mets captivated sports fans like never before, with their unique cast of characters, winning brand of baseball and tabloid headlines. Today, the ’86 Mets are one of the most storied teams in New York sports history. To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of that team, MSG Network will debut “Summer of ’86: The Rise and Fall of the World Champion Mets” on Tuesday, March 1.

Each 30-minute episode of the four-part, consecutive night series will feature interviews with players and coaches as they reflect on that memorable season, New York celebrities and dignitaries who watched from the stands, and the writers who got a firsthand look at an incredible season of baseball in New York.

Below are quotes from the program:

Darryl Strawberry: “We had a real swagger about ourselves. We had confidence about ourselves. We didn’t care what anyone thought of us. We were the New York Mets.”

Gary Carter: “We were the team that everyone loved to hate.”

Doc Gooden: “We loved to have fun. We cared and loved each other. It was a great fit. I don’t think you could have put a bunch of guys together that meshed as well as we actually did.”

Additional interview subjects include: Mookie Wilson, Kevin Mitchell, Wally Backman, Ray Knight, Manager Davey Johnson, General Manager Frank Cashen, Michael Rapaport, John Turturro, John Leguizamo, Gary Dell’Abate, Carl Banks, Ed Koch, Ray Kelly, Lou Dobbs, Jeff Pearlman and more.

“We’ve assembled some of the most significant players, dignitaries and fans from 1986 to give viewers an unparalleled retrospective of a team that captured the imagination of New Yorkers,” said Dan Ronayne, executive vice president and general manager of MSG Networks. “The 1986 Mets are an important part of New York Sports history and we’re proud to honor them 25 years later.”

Additional information about the ’86 Mets and the show will be available at MSG.com starting in mid-February, including player capsules with a summary of each player’s role and a look at where they are now. The web content will also include reflective essays from Mets bloggers and fans.

The Amazin’ Avenue Annual is out and awesome

If you’re jonesing for some Mets reading, pick up the Amazin’ Avenue Annual.

You know how this time of year you get the hankering for baseball and pick up some crappy magazine?  Don’t.  Buy this instead.

In my electronic reader (iPad) this thing was 300+ pages of solid content.  I did a quick skim, but I’ll be reading this one over the weekend.

My personal favorite section is written by those Faith & Fear guys who write about the kind of stuff I write about here…except they do it in full sentences and for 20 pages.

More info is here.

I think the government now makes bloggers admit when they get free stuff…so yes I got a review copy.  Thanks AA.
