Mets and Bisons extend agreement

This is cool….because it gives the Bisons another year to (not) answer my emails.

I enjoy the random 1964 factoid at the end.

METS AND BUFFALO BISONS EXTEND
PLAYER DEVELOPMENT PARTNERSHIP THROUGH 2012

Davis, Dickey, Thole, Dessens, Carter and Parnell Started This Season With
Mets Triple-A Affiliate

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 21, 2010 – The New York Mets and Buffalo Bisons today announced a two-year extension of their player development partnership through 2012.

Ike Davis, R.A. Dickey, Josh Thole, Elmer Dessens, Chris Carter and Bobby Parnell all began the season in Buffalo and have become key contributors to the success of the 2010 Mets. The Mets and Bisons partnership began with the 2009 season, and 12 of the 25 players on the current major-league roster have played for the Bisons since the start of last year.

“We are thrilled with our partnership with the Rich family and how the Bisons are developing players who are making significant contributions at the major-league level,” said Jeff Wilpon, Chief Operating Officer. “Bob and Mindy share our vision of success on the field and our philosophy of helping New Yorkers make a lasting impact in the community.”

“The Mets have proven to our organization and our baseball fans that they care about winning and the team they put on the field in Buffalo,” said Bob Rich, Owner, Buffalo Bisons. “The success that many Bisons players have had this season in Buffalo and then in New York has been vital to the success of both teams.”

The extension allows the Mets to strengthen its ties to New York with minor-league clubs in Buffalo, Binghamton and Brooklyn. The close proximity of the affiliates to the major-league club in Queens expedites baseball operations travel for players, coaches and scouts.

The Mets first partnered with the Bisons in 1963 for three seasons as the team’s affiliate in the International League. The 1964 Bisons went 80-69 and qualified for the International League playoffs.

Shake Shack Video

Here’s a rather generic Shake Shack story but how about that Hernandez jersey :26 seconds in?  And when did they film this, 7 in the morning?  There’s like five people on line on a “day when the digits hit triple digits.”

Brian owns these Mets jerseys: Derek Bell

Third in a 5 part series.  I believe there was one Derek Bell jersey ever sold, and Brian is going to tell us about it:

Bell
I kind of love this one just because of the lore of D. Bell.

I ran out and got this blank black Mets alternate customized in the summer of 2000 after Bell all but put the Mets on his back in May and June of their National League Championship season. The 15 year old version of me loved everything about Bell: his ridiculously baggy uniform, walking up to the plate to Jay Z’s “Big Pimpin'”. Despite the fact that Bell only played for the Mets for a season, this might be one of my favorites.

The only thing that gets to me about this one is that I purchased this in 1998, so this is the original version of the Mets black alternate (notice the blue skyline patch. It was like that for a year on the black unis). Bell technically didn’t wear this version of the black, so I wish I would have gone Piazza on this one. But it’s a quirky piece in my collection.

That blue logo makes it slightly less hideous than the black skyline patch.
