New Right Field Video Screen At Citi Field (I Think)

It’s odd to me that I don’t have complete command of every inch of Citi Field the way I did at Shea.

I believe this is new.  It is a video screen in right field, it was not active on Thursday afternoon.   We had been promised a new screen, thus my assumption.

It is above section 105 or so.

I did a 360 of the park today and did not notice any new “Mets stuff” with the possible exception of some baseball card thingies which I will post tomorrow.

That square on the right of this poorly taken photo is the screen from a different angle.

As I usually do, I took a bunch of pictures of the field and will share them in the upcoming days.  I like to save some stuff for slow days.  I can’t count on an apology-week to get me through, especially if the team is going to be 10 games back.

Los Mets Tomorrow?

I see on the scoreboard that tomorrow is Fiesta Latina. Will we see
Los Mets jerseys? Will someone explain to me how having the jersey
say "The Mets" makes any sense? Why not have a small "the" on today's?

Mets in blue today! No pins.

One Fan’s First Reaction To Citi Field

An email from a Mets fan:

I had the first chance to sit in my weekday plan seats last night (Monday).  Thankfully I had sold all of them prior to this game.  526 (Between 3rd and the wall) at an average of $25 per seat in the plan.  For that $25 per seat, I had the privilege of an obstructed (not by the Mets opinion) view of left field.  Essentially about 10% of left field you just couldn’t see because of the design of the stadium.  Are they kidding me?  Is there a seat in this park without an obstructed view?  Add in $12.50 for a Nathans fries and chicken fingers for the kid, and a very disturbing look when asking for a cup filled with water, and you can bet I will not be renewing next year.  Its embarrassing that they actually paid people to build this park, and on top of that I’d bet the contract didn’t go to the lowest bidder so there is no excuse for all the flaws.  I cannot remember anywhere near these amounts obstructed views at Shea.  Between this, the Yankees mess, the Giants and Jets debacle,  Michael Vick being conditionally reinstated, the Knicks scandal, the Islanders money grab…etc, I think its about time to look to the colleges and high schools for entertainment and show these buffoons that they have coasted along for too long.  We give these people a golden ticket and they provide literally nothing for us.  I can think of people who would appreciate $2000 much more than they would.

Whatever you do, don’t call WFAN.  They will just hang up on you and tell you you’re crazy.

Remember, the official team position is as follows (from the mouth of David Howard):

The way we characterize “obstructed” is if you have an obstruction, something in front of you — a beam, a pillar, something that’s blocking your view. That’s not the case here. It is a function of the geometry of the building. And it is a conscious decision that we made along with the designers and the architects, that we wanted people to be lower and closer to the field, and have great views, and great views of the action.

So your view not only was not obstructed, it was not obstructed on purpose.  You’re crazy, next caller.

Mets Police On Pro Baseball Central Tonight

I’ll be the guest on Pro Ball Central tonight at 9:30.

The show airs live at Blog Talk Radio  and it airs as a podcast on the Pro Baseball Central site and on the Kranepool Society.

I’m sure between Omar/Rubin/a doubleheader/uniforms/Citi Field/rotundas and the trade deadline we’ll find something to talk about.

Rainouts And Abusing The Fans

So the Mets decided to open the gate last night.

I don’t know exactly when the postponement decision was made, but Metsblog’s article announcing the postponement is time stamped 7:23pm.   The press release on Mets.com is dated 7:14.

So FOUR minutes after the scheduled first pitch they decided the forecast was so bad that they should throw in the towel?

At 4pm did they have some “window” where they thought they could play – or is it just fun and profitable to make people haul out to Citi Field, pay whatever it is to park these days, maybe buy a beer and a dog.   Hey an extra $40 out any sucker is better than zero, right?

Let’s make everyone come out and sit here, wait FOUR MINUTES and then send them home.

This isn’t just a Mets thing, it’s all the teams and it’s wrong.  Just call the game early.

For those who emailed me about having tickets for last night but not being able to use them tonight…the official policy is:

In the event a regulation game as defined by Major League Baseball is not played due to weather, Act of God, or any other reason, then the ticket will not be subject to any refund but will constitute a rain check that can be either (1) used for admission to the rescheduled game, if any, subject to certain doubleheader limitations (see below), or (2) exchanged for a same price ticket for any regular season Mets home game within 12 months of the originally scheduled game, subject to availability.
