Keith Olbermann’s Official MLB Blog Mentions Obstructed Views In Mets Citi Field Press Box

Thanks to L who sent this in…

Keith Olbermann’s official MLB blog rips the views at Citi press box!

But there are flaws in every new ballpark and I suspect the Mets will address this one, eventually. This is the view from what would otherwise be about fifteen of the best seats in the press box.

In the same blog  Keith mentions the curious case of former Met Wilbur Huckle?  Who?  Exactly.

A shortstop, he didn’t get into a single game, and never got another chance. His remaining claim to fame would be as Tom Seaver’s first professional roomate (Seaver said he never saw him awake, not once in any hotel room they shared – Huckle was an early riser who was dedicated to long walks at dawn).

Mets Caught-Offs

This is so cool.  I told y’all the other day about Mets Walk-Offs.

This piece is too cool to not share with the world.

Thanks to the help of David Smith of Retrosheet, I can tell you that it was the 8th “Caught-Off” win in Mets history. A Caught-Off is hereby defined as a Mets win that ends with a runner caught stealing. Here’s his list of dates, and a few details…

07-06-1968 NYN at PHI CS2(26)
I’m not sure why Phillies slugger Dick Allen was trying to steal second base with his team down 11-6 with two outs in the 9th, but Jerry Grote threw him out for a rather odd ending to a game in which the Mets managed their biggest offensive output of the season. Second baseman Phil Linz was the offensive star, raising his batting average from .188 to .231 with a 5-hit game.

Now it wouldn’t be cool to share the entire list here, but don’t you want to know?  More importantly, how the heck does Walkoffs figure this stuff out?  He always gets back to me quickly too!  He must be HAL 9000 or something.   Go give them some hits and get the rest of the list.

The words of a child (mets obstructed views)

At the game, Mets police junior just said "that mirror blocks your view. And it's expensive.". He is referring to the plexiglass on the promenade. .

He is in kindergarten and it was unsolicited.

Time For Mets and Mets Fans To Stop Being Mad At Gary Carter

I didn’t see this get too much pickup….Gary Carter manager of the Ducks trying to move on from his perceived undermining of Willie Randolph last year.

As we all soul-search and kill the Mets for not honoring their heroes, I think Mets fans should do the same.

Let’s stop being mad at Gary.  Let’s stop being angry at Bud Harrelson for stuff that happened 20 years ago.   Let’s stop being disappointed in Dwight Gooden for not winning 300.  Let’s stop being sad that Strawberry wanted to go to Los Angeles.

Gary come on out to Citi Field, it would be nice to see some former Mets in the place.  Plus you played for the Dodgers, so you will be welcome. (Hmm, so did Straw.)

NY Jets Draft Preview (off topic)

(For those of you who weren't around Mets Police off-season, I hate the Jets.)

Somewhere in america a young college student is excited about the biggest day of his life.

Little does he know that later today he will be holding up a green #1 jersey.

What will follow are two 4 and 12 seasons around a year two 9 and 7 playoff appearance and loss in the first round.

He will eventually be traded to Washington where he'll play one season before his career ends.

As this young man holds up his green #1, a future hall of fame quarterback will look on, wondering why he hasn't been drafted yet.
