NY Sports Examiner: At least it was sunny out. Mets lose 8-1

Look at the pretty uniforms.  Too bad that got creamed in them.

A loss in pinstripes is like the groundhog seeing his shadow.   Charlie Samuels will put these away for six weeks.  Expect to see hideous black.

Did you know the scoreboard froze on a Mets logo in the fourth inning?   Yuck.  David Howard probably will tell us this is a “feature.”

Working over examiner.com…here’s the unhappy recap.

Most Popular On Mets Police Last Week (Updated 4/26)

Every Sunday this column collects the most popular articles from the previous week, plus some that I think “got away.”

After a loss everyone wants to break up the Mets core.  Not gonna happen.

Howie Rose is back in my good graces.  He ripped the black uniforms on air, then he did it again!

The dopey black uniforms generated a lot of mail here and here and now the black uniforms are more annoying than ever – they don’t even say NEW YORK.

The complete Citi Field pictures collection is very popular.  Here you’ll find links to all the pictures we’ve posted from Citi Field, including video and unfortunately lots of obstructed views.  Updated 4/26.  There’s a similar article for Yankee Stadium.

I had some thoughts about Mets-ing up the place, and some items that would have been cool in the Mets museum, had they not sold them.

While you’re out at Citi, don’t foregt to boo Sweet Caroline.  Should Meet the Mets take the spot of Caroline?   I kinda would rather the Curly Shuffle return.

If you want to hear a franchise in denial, check out Mets VP David Howard’s interview with Mike Francesca.  Mr. Howard doesn’t believe there are any obstructed views at Citi Field but the Padres do.

The Yankees got a lot of attention around these parts, what with The Empty Seats of Yankee Stadium and the Yankee Stadium Home Run Design Flaw.   The Red Sox have become what the Yankees always had.

While you were out sunning yourself you missed that Ron Hunt says the Mets wanted to charge him for a pair of Shea seats.

Don’t you think we should make nice with Gary Carter and Bud Harrelson?

Pretty funny that Jason Tyner was traded for nothing.

Nice Fenway Piece (Times)

Too nice out, so I’m being a blog slacker.

Cool Fenway Piece in the Times.

Published: April 26, 2009
The decision to embrace and enhance Fenway Park, instead of trading it in for a new stadium as the Yankees have done, is popular with fans and players alike.

“There are those who want to build the Eighth Wonder of the World,” Larry Lucchino, the Red Sox’ president and chief executive, told me Friday. “We just wanted to preserve a nice little old ballpark.”

I still think the Yankees would be smart moving back across the street.  Let the A’s or someone play on the north side of 161st.

$15 Mets Tickets Really Cost You $25

So I had to buy an extra ticket for yesterday’s Mets game…jumped on line to get one (in case of a sellout on a nice day I didn’t want to make the trip one ticket short).

Bought a $15 seat.   Some sort of fee made added $5.  Another fee added another $5.   Total…$25?

It costs $10 in fees to buy a $15 ticket?

Lest you think I’m crazy, Phil Mushnick wrote about the same thing today.

“At $24 each that’s $240, right? But the charge became $307.50. There was a $6 dollar ‘service fee’ for each ticket, then there was what I was told is a ‘one-time service fee,’ which was another $5.

It’s just wrong.
