What To Do If Your Mets Seats At Citi Field Are Obstructed

Now that we’ve had another 40,000 or so fans see Citi Field…I’m sure some of you are (unfortunately) upset this morning that your seats look like this.

Well, some good news.   Dan from the Mets Police voiced his concern to a Citi Field rep who was quite understanding, and referred him to the ticket office.   As of this writing that situation is unresolved….

…better news is that the guy in the red hat (pic on the left) told us that he complained to the ticket office and the Mets changed his seat location.

So, if you find yourself blocked by a railing, take some pictures of the situation, go visit a Citi rep, and be sure to call the ticket office at (718) 507-TIXX.   The early reports are that the Mets are being quite understanding about the situation.

I really don’t have any suggestions on how to make the sightlines any better.   I imagine there are state safety laws that require the glass and railing to be a certain height….you can’t move the stairs….so unless you want the Mets to massively re-do the Promenade in the offseason, it is what it is.

Tim Teufel Statue At Citi Field (Onion)

ha ha ha – from The Onion

Here’s a taste (I don’t want to steal the whole thing).

Although an undeniable atmosphere of excitement swirled around new Mets ballpark Citi Field at its unofficial opening Friday, many of the team’s fans were put off by an 18-foot-tall bronze statue of Tim Teufel displayed in the center of the Jackie Robinson Rotunda.

The rest of the “story” is here.

Obama Pastor Rips Yankees

Saw this yesterday morning but wanted to give Citi Field some space.

From the White House press pool…these are the comments of Obama’s pastor.   This is a non-story but fun headline!

“Not only that, baseball season has started,” Leon said , adding the church drummer is a big New York Yankees fan.

Leon said he wanted to remind everybody that the Orioles have beaten the Yankees twice so far, and therefore, “The world lives in hope”

“I’m a fairly charitable person, but I have to tell you – I hate the Yankees,” he said, and laughter erupted from the pews.

And the News adds:

White House spokesman Bill Burton did not respond last night to the Daily News’ urgent inquiry into this matter.

Hey at least Mr. Obama doesn’t pretend to be some big-time Yankees fan like certain former senators from Arkan…I mean New York.  (Too political?)

Mets and Yankees Identity Crisises (Newsday)

As I’ve been saying I pushed some stuff off yesterday to give Citi Field some attention….but Newsday had a nice piece on Monday.

The Mets, meanwhile, have a real identity crisis of sorts. As we’ve discussed here previously, is there another professional team out there, in any sport, that gets such grief from its own fans? There’s an incredible disconnect between the way Mets ownership feels about Omar Minaya and the way many Mets fans feel about Omar.

Citi Field is really nice, but haunted by its own name, fittingly.

Will the Mets ever build an organization as well-planned as their ballpark is? Will the Yankees, who operate as though they were raised by parents with impossibly high standards (hey, wait a minute…), ever forgive themselves and operate like a normal baseball team?

The rest is here.

Seaver & I Return To Flushing

This was my weekly Monday column on Flushing University .  A few hours dated now but hopefully you’ll enjoy it anyway.

Today’s the big day. The home openeris always my favorite day of the season, and tonight will be doublyspecial as it’s likely to be the only new Mets stadium opener Iattend unless they wheel me out to the replica of Shea built when I’min in my 90’s.

The new park signifies a turning pointin this city. For the first time since the Yankees christened theirremodeled stadium with a run of pennants, the Mets have the betterpark in town. That’s not me being a rah-rah mets fan and Yankeehater (I’m far from it), I’m hearing it from Yankee fans too. We’llget into that another day, tonight is all about the Mets.
It stinks that it’s a night game. Apparently the P’s from San Diego can’t get out of bed after a crosscountry flight…they are too wimpy to play at even 4:05pm (or sosays the union) so we’ll wear an extra sweatshirt and root heartilyagainst the San Diego Chickens at night.
Tom Seaver and Mike (I’m a Met,really!) Piazza will reunite to throw out the first pitch. Tom’s theright choice of course, and if Mike wants to go into the Hall of Fameas a Met, hey why not.
If you haven’t been to Citi Field yet,it’s great. The whole Dodgers thing isn’t as bad as it seemed itwould be, and during the Red Sox games there weren’t too many Metsthings hung on the walls, but it already feels like home.
If you’re in the first few rows of thePromenade you may find yourself sad – the railings and staircasesare ill-placed, but so far the Mets have been amenable to requestsfrom fans to get their seats changed. If it says “row 3” onyour ticket I wish you well for tonight.
We’ve seen a week’s worth of games fromour Metsies, and although there has been some bad luck and some shakypitching (Ollie for one, Pelfrey for another, and I seem to be theonly one who didn’t like Maine’s start, but I didn’t.) – for the mostpart this team looks solid and battles. Santana lost a gem onSunday, and if I were Dan Murphy I’d be seen shagging flies all daytoday. Murph and Church seem like they are on a mission to keepSheffield on the bench.
“I like my team” is what I have tosay about the Mets. In fantasy sports that usually meansstubbornness leading to last place, but so far so good despite therecord.
Hopefully City Field will have atradition of winning. Mike Pelfrey, we’re counting on you. We’reMets fans…on the way out we’ll have decided if we’re winning theWorld Series or if this team is another choker. It will be yourperformance that forms that opinion. Don’t stink up the joint.
See you in the Promenade! Bring meback a shake. Chocolate.
